UHSC Urban Farming

UHSC's Urban Farming program is a testament to the power of collaboration and the potential for transformative change. We have partnered with two esteemed organizations, the Chicago Park District's Cornell Park and the University of Illinois - Extension College of Agriculture, to create a youth development program that goes beyond the boundaries of traditional education. By engaging with the youth of our community during after-school hours, we aim to nurture their potential and equip them with essential life skills.

Through a carefully curated curriculum, students actively participate in a variety of enriching activities, including youth conferences, dynamic workshops, and captivating urban garden projects. As they get their hands dirty in the soil and witness the miracle of seed to harvest, they develop a deep appreciation for the environment and a profound understanding of the importance of sustainable practices. Beyond horticultural skills, this program fosters resilience, teamwork, and critical thinking, empowering our youth to become change agents within their communities.

One of our most successful partnerships is with the 4H program, where we work hand in glove to provide intervention and prevention strategies to the youth we serve. By combining the transformative power of urban farming with mentorship and positive youth development, we create a powerful synergy that empowers young individuals to break through barriers, embrace their unique potential, and become leaders in their own right. Together, we are sowing the seeds of a brighter future for our community.
